The original book covers the entire nation. Some people only want to learn about their corner of this great land.

This book starts with who else, but the great state of New York (as if they'd have it any other way).  Sandwiched between it and Pennsylvania is the middle child of them all; New Jersey.  Delaware tags along to watch the fun! Both once state capitals and nation capitals of New York City and Philadelphia make an appearance.

The capital choice race is on as the Carolinas split, Georgia spins off a couple of new states, Tennessee emerges and Florida is wrested away from the Spanish.

Once the states of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin developed out of what was once called the Northwest Territories, the capital for each state had to be declared somewhere.  They just couldn't decide.

Victory over the Spanish yielded the states in this edition which includes two states that were once their own country.  Despite being larger states, locations of capital cities were not that easy in settlement.

Once it was hoped that Oregon would stretch to Alaska.  Instead it peeled off two other states who had their own capital city designation woes.  Alaskan capital has been threatened with relocation recently while the Hawai'ian capital has wondered among the chain of islands.
